Dai Trang Le is the first Vietnamese refugee to be elected to the 47th Parliament of Australia as the first Independent Federal Member for Fowler, a division of Western Sydney that was named after Lilian Fowler, the first female mayor in Australia.

Dai, her mother and two younger sisters resettled in Australia in December 1979 after years in refugee camps in Southeast Asia after the fall of Saigon in April 1975.
