Senator the Hon Jane Hume is the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, Shadow Minister for Employment and Industrial Relations, Shadow Minister for Productivity and Deregulation, and a Liberal Senator for Victoria.
Jane graduated from the University of Melbourne with a Bachelor of Commerce and started her career in the financial services industry working for the National Australia Bank. She then went on to work in asset management at Rothschild Australia, Deutsche Bank, and in policy at Australian Super. She also was a board member of two of Victoria’s most iconic institutions, Federation Square, and the Royal Children’s Hospital.
In 2016, Jane was elected as a Liberal Senator for Victoria.
Throughout her time in Parliament, she has served as Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Economics, and Assistant Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and Financial Technology. In 2020, she was promoted to the position of Minister for Superannuation, Financial Services and Digital Economy, and then in 2021, she became the first Minister for Women’s Economic Security.
Jane is passionate about her achievements during her time as a Minister, where she improved Australia’s superannuation system to ensure it is transparent, efficient, and fit for purpose, and worked to ensure the best possible economic outcomes for women.
Following the 2022 election, Jane was appointed Shadow Minister for Finance, Special Minister of State, and the Public Service. During that time, she fought for fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, smaller government and cutting wasteful spending. These are principles which she remains committed to fighting for.
Jane also serves as the Chair of the Margaret Guilfoyle Network, the Liberal Party’s strategic advancement network for women.
